El Cajon police sergeant on leave during sexual-assault inquiry

A veteran El Cajon police sergeant has been suspended amid an investigation into allegations that he sexually assaulted a 20-year-old male volunteer with the Police Department.
Police Chief Pat Sprecco said the sergeant, whose name was not released, has been on administrative leave since late August after the volunteer reported being sexually assaulted in Alpine.
After an investigation by the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, the district attorney's office declined to file criminal charges.
But the Police Department is conducting its own investigation that could lead to the sergeant being disciplined or fired.
