Minimal cost intro to gardening classes
The Grow LA Victory Garden Initiative helps new gardeners start their own gardens quickly and easily in a container, in the backyard or at a community garden. The initiative brings together local families and neighborhoods to share their experiences, skills and produce. Participants are able to turn this new interest in gardening into successful, productive gardens that will generate positive changes in their homes by helping to lower grocery bills and enhance opportunities to eat healthy food.
Cooperative Extension's Master Gardener volunteers organize and lead low-cost Victory Garden Circles and teach the basics of gardening. Participants become UC-certified Victory Gardeners.
The initiative partners include UC Cooperative Extension's LA County Master Gardeners, the Los Angeles Community Garden Council, the Los Angeles County Arboretum, the Los Angeles Conservation Corps, the Huntington Botanical Gardens, the Los Angeles County Natural History Museum and many more partners as well as the local organization sites that will be hosting the Victory Garden classes.
For more on UC Cooperative Extension's gardening programs, please visit the Common Ground Garden Program's Web page.
Become a Victory Gardener! Even if you can't participate in our upcoming classes, it's easy to start a vegetable garden at home. Here are some resources to help you get started: How to Start a Vegetable Garden ; Los Angeles Community Gardens; and Helpful Articles on Gardening .
