Costa Mesa man dies in O.C. Sheriff’s Department custody
A 55-year-old Costa Mesa man died while in the custody of the Orange County Sheriff's Department, authorities said Thursday.
Stephen Douglas Mott was suffering from chronic medical issues when he was taken to West Anaheim Memorial Hospital. In a news release, the Sheriff's Department said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
Mott was taken to Orange County Jail by Costa Mesa police Tuesday after he was arrested on suspicion of burglary and petty theft, according to a release.
The Orange County district attorney's office is investigating the death.
The Sheriff's Department did not return an immediate call for comment.
